When I think of Candice Olson’s work I think of elements of a lot of lighting, texture in fabrics (metallics!), and clean lines of furniture and accessories. Her designs are so distinct and what impresses me the most is how her sketches always match her final result to a tee, really, everything down to a stack of books. I would love to be able to see a blank slate through her eyes.
Here are some of her valuable design tips:
1. Pull tear sheets from magazines of what you like so you can get a feel for your own design style.
2. Design is more then just a furniture suite. It’s all about the lighting, fabric, flooring, and accessories.
3. Buy pieces that will hold their value and factor into this decision that your taste will evolve over time. Stick with clean lines.

Candice Olson is inspiring and fun to watch on HGTV’s Divine Design and always delivers spaces in contemporary yet traditional styles that I would love to have as my own.
